Redzone Wireless, LLC Announces Major Expansion of Broadband Network in Maine

Company Doubles 4G LTE Advanced Broadband Coverage with New Service Areas in Westbrook, Camden, Rockland and Manchester/Augusta.

September 24, 2015 – Camden, Maine.  Redzone Wireless, LLC, a Maine-based wireless Internet service provider (WISP), has significantly expanded its powerful 4G LTE Advanced wireless broadband network with the activation of coverage in four new Maine communities.

The expanded high speed Internet service in the communities of Westbrook, Camden, Rockland and Manchester/Augusta were privately funded by Redzone, and are now in full commercial operation.  Today’s announcement follows Redzone’s initial network launch in June, which provided high speed Internet service to Portland, Waterville and Casco Bay Islands.

Redzone has reached another significant milestone by more than doubling the number of communities served by its 4G LTE Advanced broadband network.  “The incredibly rapid expansion of our network and service area demonstrates the viability of 4G LTE as a solution to Maine’s broadband challenge,” said Jim McKenna, Redzone Wireless, LLC President. “While this is an important accomplishment for Redzone and Maine, our long term goal is to continue expanding coverage to reach more than 90% of Maine’s residents and businesses within a few short years,” explained McKenna.

“Redzone Wireless is investing capital in Maine, creating jobs in Maine, hiring people in Maine, and at the same time, helping solve a real infrastructure problem that is holding back economic development in our state,” said Maine Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner George Gervais.

“The expansion of Redzone’s network highlights how several Maine-based organizations can collaborate to solve an important technology issue for the people of Maine while creating jobs,” said Gregory A. Dufour, president and chief executive officer of Camden National Bank, who provided financing to Redzone. “Opportunities like this are created through a strong spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship by Jim and his team, a strong local bank like Camden National, and support from various State agencies who helped to bring this effort to fruition.”

“We are pleased to support Redzone’s expansion, not only matching good people with good jobs in our state, but also increasing access to the Internet and high-speed communications,” stated Commissioner of Labor Jeanne Paquette. “This is necessary to connect people in rural areas with the tools they need to look for jobs and upgrade their skills as well as attract more employers to Maine.  It’s a win-win for everyone.”

“We welcome this opportunity to provide a new choice in broadband service to more communities in Maine,” said Michael Forcillo, Redzone Vice President.  “Our network is now available to 100,000 homes, representing more than 17% of all Maine households.  Based on our success in expanding coverage, we now expect to exceed our previously stated goal of covering 25% of Maine’s population by the end of 2015,” added Forcillo.

The company has scheduled a press conference in Camden at 2:30pm on September 24th.  Redzone management will be joined by a number of distinguished guests, partners, and dignitaries to mark the network launch with a formal announcement presentation.
